The alternative tunnel to "Pavoncelli" tunnel, part of the Sele – Calore water pipeline, provides an alternative route of the historical tunnel for delivery of water from Sorgente Sanità and Cassano Irpino to Puglia.
The tunnel Pavoncelli Bis represents a water supply system with flow rate of 6.50 m3/s, which can transmit even a higher maximum flow rate of 9 m3/s.
The main works in the project are:
- connection to the existing tunnel Rosalba
- connection to the channel Cassano Irpino
- new ridge tunnel "Pavoncelli bis"
The new ridge tunnel spans between Caposele and Cocumella for 10,225.29 m, with an internal circular section of 3,400 mm.
The excavation is made with mechanized system TBM – EPB, with laying of precast ring segments and excavation section of 4.500 mm.
The cutter penetrates depth of 12.5 to 15.0 mm/revolution. The average speed of rotation of the head of the cutter is 3.75 rev/min thus guaranteeing an average theoretical of 3.1 m/h.
