The project regards the new Unipolar Spinal Unit of the Orthopedic Trauma Centre CTO of Turin.
The structure combines architectural, distributive, and technological state-of-the-art solutions, with organizational and operational practices to enhance interventions that characterize the taking in charge of the patient with spinal cord injuries.
The new Spinal Unit spans over 4 floors, and accommodates 62 beds for spinal damage and 12 beds for day hospital.
The building forms are characterized by a linear functional scheme with two central paths, serving the hospital rooms, day hospital, support functions, and internally the vertical pathways and services.
The three floors of inpatient treatment have a double corridor arrangement within the rooms, while the head, which houses gyms and rehabilitation services, adopts a freeform featuring a curved façade.
Characteristic element is the air link between the Spinal Unit and the Trauma Centre, which originates from the roof and trespasses the underlying roads, sidewalks and green areas.
