Mediopadana in Reggio Emilia is the new railway station for high speed trains.

Mediopadana is the only intermediate stop on the high speed line between Milan and Bologna, and because of its position it is an important interchange node between the railway line Milan - Bologna, with the regional service of Railways Ferrovie Emilia Romagna Srl (FER) and the road traffic of motorway A1.

Formally, the New Station in Reggio Emilia is distinguished by its futuristic structure designed by Santiago Calatrava. It is composed of 19 modules each with a length of 25.4 m and a total length of 483 m, and width and height that vary respectively up to a maximum of 50 and 20 m. Each module consists of a sequence of 25 steel portals with variable form, arranged in check-mate pattern at a distance of about 1 meter.

The structure, made of steel, concrete and glass, is articulated on two levels. The upper floor incorporates tracks, benches and space for elevators leading to the entrance. Ground floor houses connections with regional trains and public service lines, altogether with general services for passengers and commercial spaces.
