The construction of the Airship Hangar in Augusta started in November 1917 and finished three years later. The building has a footprint of 105.5 m x 45.2 m and is 37 m high. Thanks to the adoption of external frames, the interior is an empty space with dimensions 100 mx 26 m x 31 m, designed as the first shelter for airships up to 12,000 m3.
The idea was to realize a project that could activate the cultural synergy, the recreational and the tourist interest in order to revive the area with positive recovery on the whole proinve of Siracusa.
According to the abovementioned hypothesis, the project qualifies the former airships hangar and its surroundings as a multi-purpose center, creating a museum which is narrowly related to the area and the town of Augusta, that originated as a military fortress thanks to its central location on the Mediterranean coast.
A large cultural melting pot, a place where cultural interests, education, training, and entertainment come together and co-exist.
