The new Hospital in Cisanello is an extension to the existing hospital, and will allow the transfer of Hospital Santa Chiara, located in the historic city centre, in an area of 450,000 m2 between the Arno River and the village of Cisanello.

The front building serves as interface and functional node of the system. It is connected on one side with the existing First Enlargement/Primo Potenziamento and the ER, and on the other hand with the Second Enlargement/Secondo Potenziamento. It also houses a surgical unit with 12 operating theatres, intensive care units, and a burns unit.

The new rooms are organized in a double corridor arrangement, and provide about 550 beds, of which 1/3 in single rooms. The building also provides facilities for Imaging, outpatient premises, offices and medical facilities.

The new Didactic Centre houses classrooms for 3,300 students, administrative and management offices, a library, a lecture hall with separate entrance.
Two buildings with a total area of 37,300 m2 are intended for laboratory and research activity with BSL 2 and BSL 3 facilities.
