CASE Project [Seismically Isolated & Sustainable Buildings] was promoted by the Office of the Council of Ministries to ensure housing for the population affected by the earthquake in Abruzzo on April 6, 2009.

The project involves 5 out of 30 financed lots, 22 buildings and 600 residential units.

The project provides a complex environment, challenging from a sensory point of view, focusing on the choice of materials, colors, light.

The structural core of the buildings consists of multilayer panels in crossed wood fiber, made of solid wood of varying thickness, to form a three-dimensional grid to strongly dilute the influence of eventual imperfections in the single pieces.

The woods used are fir and pine: the uniqueness and quality of wood are well highlighted by the very narrow growth rings, indicating a slow growth and high density of the material, and consequently its physical and mechanical resistance.

Internal partitions and thermo-acoustic insulation are made of Wood Fiber, produced with sawmill waste through an industrial process which uses the lignin contained in the wood as a glue.
